Contact insecticides

Bednets are not only a mechanical barrier between the mosquito and the sleeping person but their surface is often also treated with contact insecticides in order to kill mosquitoes that land on the net. Treated bednets have to obtain high knock-down- and mortality rates, and the active ingredient has to be persistent even after several washings.

The bioactivity and persistence of treated bednets is evaluated in standard WHO-Cone tests. WHO-Tube tests and exposition tests in petri dishes are usually used for the bioactivity evaluation of treated apparel.
