Dr. Martin Geier – MD & Focus Attractants
Martin completed his diploma (equiv. Masters) and doctoral thesis in Regensburg on the olfactory host finding behaviour of the yellow fever mosquito Aedes aegypti. He was a post-doc at the Department of Entomology at the University of California in Riverside. On his return to Deutschland he became head of the mosquito lab at the University of Regensburg. Together with Andreas, Martin founded BioGents in the year 2002. Martin is a member of the American Mosquito Control Association and the Institute for Biodiversity. He speaks German and English.
Dr. Andreas Rose – MD & Focus Repellents
Andreas studied biology in Regensburg and at the University of Colorado in Boulder. His diploma and doctoral theses were on the olfactory host finding behaviour of the kissing bug Triatoma infestans. He was a post-doc in Martin's laboratory before spending three years in France working in research and development at a producer of essential oils and plant extracts. Andreas is a member of the European Mosquito Control Association, the Society for Vector Ecology, and the German Association of General and Applied Entomology. He speaks German, English, and French.
Markus Siegers – MD & Focus Business Development
Markus studied biology at the Universities of Constance and Cologne, where he specialized in biochemistry as well as in microbiology. In addition, he was educated in business administration. Markus started his business career at IKB Deutsche Industriebank AG, where he was part of the biotech investment team. He then moved on to MPM Capital, one of the worlds largest venture capital investors dedicated to the life science industry. He speaks German and English.
Thomas Hörbrand – Scientist / Focus Attractants
For his Masters thesis, Thomas studied the olfactory system of the butterfly Manduca sexta. He then worked as a research scientist in the pharmaceutical industry. His main responsibilities at BioGents include the organisation and supervision of laboratory facilities and the experiments in our R&D activities: the development and improvement of traps and lures for mosquitoes and other insects. Thomas speaks German, English, and some French and Italian.
Ulla Kröckel – Scientist / Focus Repellents
Ulla already worked in the mosquito lab as a student, before defecting to join our colleagues in the genetics department. After successfully finishing her Masters thesis on "DIP13 in Volvox carteri", we were delighted to welcome her back again. Ulla's main responsibility is the organisation of our test service: field and laboratory tests of insect protection products such as repellents, treated textiles, etc. Ulla speaks German, English, and Portuguese.
Prof. Dr. Álvaro E. Eiras – Research Consultant, Brazil
Alvaro first studied biology in Brazil. His studies then took him to England, where he received his PhD from the University of Southampton. He was a post-doc at the Federal University of Viçosa and a research associate at the State University of North Fluminense, both in Brazil. Since 1998, he has been an assistant professor at the Department of Parasitology at Federal University of Minas Gerais in Belo Horizonte, Brazil.
