Evaluation and Screening

BioGents evaluates and screens substances and applications aimed at insect control.

Thanks to our facilities we are in an ideal position to create customized solutions: if necessary, we can put substances and techniques through a quick screening using behavioural or electrophysiological techniques, then further carry out a study in a controlled semi-natural environment, before conducting field tests in temperate, Mediterranean, sub-tropical and tropical regions.

At every stage of the project, we can modify the aims and match next steps to the evolving needs of the customer.

Past projects include:

  • Efficacy tests in the development and evaluation of repellents against mosquitoes and other blood-feeding arthropods.
  • Evaluation of repellent-treated textiles.
  • Comparison and evaluation of a wide range of other mosquito repellent products in the laboratory and in the field.
  • Electrophysiological and behavioural tests as part of the development of the repellent, Bayrepel (also known as KBR3023, Picardin, Propidin, or Icaridin).
  • Comparison and evaluation of different repellents against wasps in the field.
  • Evaluation of different electronic insect traps.
  • Quality control of traps for household insect pests.
  • Evaluation of UV-Light traps for mosquitoes.
